In response to player comments and recommendations, Marvel Rivals creator NetEase Games announced new steps it was taking to prevent rated-match chucking on March 7. According to the Marvel Rivals development team, these additional defenses are improvements over the anti-throwing procedures that were already in place.

To put it briefly, “throwing” a rated match in any competitive game, including Marvel Rivals, means that the player is purposefully not taking part in the game by either sabotaging the game or moving away from the keyboard (AFK). Naturally, this significantly disadvantages the team with the throwing buddy and often results in ranking-point losses for every member of the losing team. Due to Marvel Rivals’ aggressive ranked matchmaking, some elite players have thrown matches to exclude others.

Marvel Rivals Will Compensate Victims of Ranked Match Throwing

NetEase Games announced that it was implementing two significant changes to discourage match tossing in response to the “overwhelming amount of feedback” it received from players during Marvel Rivals Season 6.5. A server-wide match throwing detection system has been put in place, according to Marvel Rivals’ social media posts. This new technique increases the amount of harmful activity that can be identified during a ranked match by combining data analysis and manual evaluation. According to NetEase Games, any accounts that break the game’s anti-throwing regulations will be subject to severe penalties once any malicious or deliberate match tossing has been verified by the new system. The nature of these new penalties and their potential to discourage match tossing are presently unknown, though.

Marvel Rivals Can Still Improve Its Punishments For Bad Player Behavior

Some fans applauded NetEase Games for their ongoing efforts to improve ranked matches for everyone in response to the adjustments made to Marvel Rivals. The manual review feature of Marvel Rivals’ new throwing detection technologies, according to one Twitter user, should also target the alternate accounts—commonly known as smurf accounts of players who continue to violate the game’s throwing prohibitions. The end-of-season period would be the ideal moment to test NetEase’s new countermeasures, according to one user who hoped Marvel Rivals would keep improving its defenses against match deserters and throwers. However, player comments and reports are still necessary for Marvel Rivals’ new methods to be effective.
